Donald R. Bennett, Jr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald R. Bennett, Jr. on February 16, 2025, following a hard-fought battle with stroke and brain injury.  While Bo (as we all knew him) lived in South Florida for the last several years, he always considered Wilmington to be his home, and it is here where he will be laid to rest at the gravesite of his parents.

Bo was preceded in death by his father, Donald R. Bennett, Sr. of Cincinnati, OH and his mother, Mary Amato Bennett of Wilmington, DE.  He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Marie Bennett of Boynton Beach, FL, his sister Robin Edwards (Glen) of Amelia Island, FL, and his brother Joseph Bennett (Corey) of Rehoboth Beach, DE.

Bo adored his daughter, Ashley, and had a deep love for his family and pets.  He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and always enjoyed a good rock concert and a ride on a Harley-Davidson.  He lived his life fiercely and unapologetically yet was a kind and gentle soul underneath it all.  At his best, Bo was smart and witty with a great sense of humor, and he will be sorely missed.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Bo on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. 19803.  A visitation will be held at 9:00am with a service beginning at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery, 1000 Ridge Road, Linwood, PA. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in Bo’s name.

I Sold Bo that Red Harley Sportster! He trashed the H#!! out of it! 2 gallons gas, an unlite cigarette & No helmet! He thought that he was the Coolest Thing On Two Wheels! The Angry Neighbors would complain to Me! (& His Dad & the Police) "Why DId You Ever Sell Him That Go# D@&% Thing!! He's Terrorizing Our Neighborhood !" And I Would Always Answer " If You Were So Concerned, Then Why Didn't You Buy It !?!" A Free Spirt, & Good Heart For Sure. May He Rest In Peace.

I moved into Gwinhurst in the early 60s and my first good friend I met was Bo Bennett. I was the kid that lived on Odessa Avenue last house and we would cut through Ronnie August’s backyard to get to Bo‘s house where we played basketball in front of his garage, built newspaper forts inside his garage when it was rainy, played in his basement without the lights on and hit our heads against the support poles but had a great time together as kids. We would watch the Sixers play on tv and Mr. & Mrs. Bennett would make hot buttered popcorn, heavy on the butter, which was perfect for us. We would indulge and watch the Sixers win at times we would go to church service together, Mr. Bennett, Bo and I to Assembly of God in his Volkswagen and boy did that car get cold in the winter time. As kids, we had the run of the neighborhood and had the best time of our lives. On our bikes till dusk, racing around the streets as fast as we could go. So many great memories that I will always smile when I think about you and your family. God bless you and take you into his arms Bo Bennett.
