Dominic “Nick” Joseph Ligi

Dominic (Nick) Joseph Ligi, age 79, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away at his home on Thursday April 7, 2022.

Nick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed. He was born in Pittson, Pennsylvania to Mary and Tito (Ted) Ligi. Shortly after their family moved to Wilmington, Delaware. He attended and graduated from Salesianum High School in 1960, and went on to become an electrical engineer.

Nick’s career with Spitz Space Systems allowed him the incredible opportunity to travel around the globe to installing domes and planetariums, a pretty unique endeavor in itself. Nick met Susan Hoopes in 1963 and they wed in October, 1964. Their family grew, introducing two daughters, Kimberly and Kristina. In 1984 Nick explored the entrepreneurial path and opened “Ligi’s Pizza and Deli,” the family holds many memories of the deli.  “Ligi’s” closed due to the road expansion on Naamans Road, but stories about Nicks pizza throwing skills were passed down to his grandchildren. Nick was a man of many hats, working at Wawa and Lowes after retiring from Spitz and Ligi’s Deli closed. When he decided it was time to relax and fully enjoy retired life, Nick and his wife Susan purchased a home in The Villages. They lived a proper snow bird lifestyle, staying in sunny Florida during the winters, and coming home to Delaware in the summer. Together they made countless friends, golfed, fished, played pickle ball, visited Disney and explored the small towns around them. They hosted many winter family holidays in The Villages.  Nick always started his day checking his stocks. He listened to Elvis, enjoyed classic western movies, and gardening (especially his mother’s roses). He was an amazing woodworker and could fix just about anything!  He loved fishing, taking trips to Lancaster, and enjoyed collaborating on crafts with his wife. Most of all he loved his family. To others he may have seemed tough as nails, but to his grandchildren he was a big teddy bear who offered unlimited amounts of support and love.

Nick was preceded in passing by his wife Susan, and is survived by his daughters Kimberly Danz (Michael), and Kristina (John) Jamison, his sister Dorothy McCool (of Virginia) and his grandchildren, Michelle Danz, Matthew Danz and Kylie Jamison.
