David J. Sawdey passed away on June 14, 2018. He was a beloved son to George and Frances (Raynor) Sawdey of Rochester, New York. He graduated from New York University and, after his Army service, joined Fairchild Publications in New York City. He traveled to Paris, France, with his young wife Janet to take up the position of reporter for Fairchild in the early 1960s. Over the next several years he served as London Bureau Chief, and then back in Paris as European Director for Fairchild Publications. He returned with his wife and young children to the United States to join the DuPont Company. He retired from DuPont in his last position as Safety, Health & Environmental Manager, DuPont Engineered Services.
David was an avid naturalist and Master Gardener. A francophile, he read, wrote and translated poetry from the French language. He enjoyed travelling, the literary arts and the blessings of nature. Nothing gave David greater pleasure than to relax in the company of his loving family.
David is survived by Janet, his loving wife of 57 years, his younger brother Michael, sons Devin and Keir, daughter Alison, grandson Kyle (Maria), granddaughter Eva and great-granddaughter Savannah. He is also survived by his caring sister-in-law Marilyn Fox, and extended family in California, Minnesota and Illinois. David was predeceased earlier this year by his older brother Phil of Temecula, California.
Services will be held at a later date.
