Danny Deardorff

Dan Deardorff, 73, of Middletown, Delaware, formerly of Miller, South Dakota, passed away in his home on August 9, 2025. Born in Miller in 1952, he grew up in Mulvane, Kansas before moving to Wilmington, DE, Chadds Ford, PA, and finally, Middletown, DE. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1970.

Dan dedicated 36 years of his career to Boeing, where he worked from 1978 until his retirement in 2014 as Supervisor of Flight Test.

Outside of work, Dan’s great passion was bass fishing. He was an active member of fishing club Boothwyn Basshawks for decades, traveling around the region for tournaments and making lifelong friends along the way. Each year, he looked forward to visiting Lake Champlain in Vermont with family to spend time on the water. Dan’s love of fishing was matched only by his love for his family, and anyone who knew him could spot him instantly in his signature Carhartt pocket T-shirt.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dolores Deardorff and his ex wife, Joanne Kingsland. He is survived by his brother, Dave Deardorff; his sister, Debbie Alexander (Kevin); his daughter, Erin Strid (Jason); his sons, Chris Deardorff (Sarah) and Jonathan Deardorff (Melissa); and ex wife Paula Kerestus. He had six beloved grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.

Dan will be remembered for his generosity, easygoing nature, quick wit, and the way he lived life doing exactly what he loved. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories made both on and off the water.

A celebration of life will be held at Chandler Funeral home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803, on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 2:00 PM-3:30 PM.

Floral arrangements in his memory may be sent to Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.

I am Dan's newest next door neighbor of just over a year. Dan and I talked at the fence and shared who we were and our history as well as our family's. After he told me his name of course I had to ask if he was related to the football player with same name, he laughed and said he got that alot of course, lol. In the very short time we spent talking I knew he was a good man !!! My wife Daphyne and I have you all on our hearts and in our prayers❤️🙏 If you need anything from us please stop over anytime!!!

My condolences to all the Deardorff family members especially my nephew Jonathan. Dan was like a big brother to me. He used to call me “ Jackie” referring to the sister character of Rosanne Connor since I spent so much time at the house and even coming on vacations with him and my sister. He never made me feel unwanted or unwelcomed. Dan was always complementary to me whenever I saw him over the years. I was recently very happy to see him at his granddaughter ; my great niece Glory’s first birthday party. He asked if he could sit with us; my husband Steve and I. We had a great visit . Dan, I cried like a baby when I heard that you had left this Earth. Please now watch over all of us that you left behind . With Gods infinite Love and Mercy may you rest in eternal peace

"His absence is like the sky , spread over everything" Quotes about loss often highlight the enduring nature of love, the pain of grief, and the eventual acceptance of change. They emphasize that love transcends death, and that grief, while painful, is a testament to the depth of affection once shared. Ultimately, loss prompts reflection on life, impermanence, and the importance of cherishing memories.

My deepest sympathy to Erin, Chris and Jonathan. Dad was taken too soon. When we first met, he would always show me photos of his children. They were the light of his life. I have no doubt that he will continue to watch over you. My door is always open to all three of you. May the Holy Spirit continue to give you peace during this most difficult time. May perpetual light shine upon him. Paula (aka PJ, Mom)
