Cynthia Fulenwider Denham

Cynthia Fulenwider Denham, age 84, passed away peacefully on October 20 surrounded by her loving family. Cynthia was born in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Sibyl Cram and John Janvier Black Fulenwider. Her memories of a childhood in nearby Chadds Ford were idyllic. Growing up the oldest of three, she was surrounded by her close-knit family, dogs, and the beautiful countryside. Summers were spent at the seaside in her mother’s home state of Maine.

Attending Tatnall School as a child, Cynthia later graduated from Westover School and Briarcliff College. She worked as a secretary in Manhattan and San Francisco before returning to Wilmington where she met her husband, Sonny, whom she married in 1963. In Sonny, she found her perfect match. They shared common interests including a lifelong love for socializing and fun. Raising two daughters, Cynthia prided herself in having an immaculate home with healthy dinners on the table each night. Cynthia and Sonny had many adventures together, traveling in the US and Europe with friends.

Cynthia was a wife, mother, and grandmother who loved nothing more than spending time with her family. Every family get-together ended with her proclaiming, “I Love My Family. There is nothing more important”. Sunday night dinners, long visits, holiday gatherings, and family vacations were her favorite times. Known as “Meema” to her family, she especially adored every minute with her five grandchildren.

Cynthia had a great sense of humor, was quick to laugh, and loved conversing with both new acquaintances and old friends. Her daughters found that wherever they went, people remarked on how Cynthia always brought a smile to their faces and made them laugh.

In addition to her husband Sonny, Cynthia will be missed dearly by her family including her daughters, Cynthia (Jim) and Susanna (Andy); grandchildren, Will, Zoe, Stella, Hill, and Hugo; siblings, Sibyl and Mike, and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
