Carolyn Eaton, a loving wife and a friend to every dog she met, peacefully completed life’s puzzle on March 19, 2025, at the age of 74. The daughter of George and Juliet Patterson, Carolyn’s greatest pride was the family she built, including her husband, Mike, her sister, Juliet, her children, Elizabeth and Jonathan, and her four wonderful grandchildren, Abigail, Violet, Byron, and Orson.
A student of the world, Carolyn, was most interested in the people she loved. She remembered every friend’s birthday, phone number, and even their pets’ birthdays. Her care extended beyond her inner circle to her environmental education work with the Brandywine Valley Association as well as volunteer work with Connecting Generations and the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution, where she dedicated herself to lifting others up.
Carolyn’s care for children was manifested through acceptance, empathy, and a love of the underdog. This gift made her a humble mother and mentor to many and a friend across generations.
A nature-lover, “Carrot” tended to her gardens the way she tended to life—with generosity, haphazard experimentation, and the occasional plastic pink flamingo. Whether sharing her garden’s bounty, meeting friends for a walk through nature, or anticipating the next holiday decorations, she lived each day with pride and a loving spirit.
Though she has moved beyond this world, we take comfort in knowing that wherever she is now, there are more birdfeeders to fill, twinkle lights to hang, and tomatoes to juice. With her passing, many remaining friends and family members will be unable to achieve their own afterlife goals: to be reincarnated as one of Carolyn’s dogs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to any charity that believes in equality, love, and dogs sleeping in beds.
