Carol Hanrahan

Carol Hanrahan passed away peacefully on December 10, 2021 at age 95.

Carol was beloved by her family and friends who enjoyed her sharp wit. She was especially dear to her seven grandchildren: Brendan, Caden, Colin, Connor, Kieran and Meaghan Hanrahan, and Oksana Iunko and her husband Hermon. Her great-granddaughter Adelia always made Grandmom smile. She is also survived by her three sons: Terry, Timothy and his wife Joann, and Michael and his partner Cathleen Stephen. Also surviving Carol are her sister Lenore Anderson, her nephew Robert Anderson, her niece Lois Anderson and her husband Bruce, and Carol’s life-long friend, Aunt June Kelly.

Carol was born and grew up in New York, but lived most of her life in Wilmington, Delaware before moving to Newtown Square, Pennsylvania a few years ago. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends to Ireland, France, Italy, Russia and many other places. Carol was often described as a “pistol” because she was a spirited, energetic and vibrant character.

Burial will be private. If the COVID pandemic permits, we hope to have a gathering of family and friends in early 2022 to celebrate Carol’s long and loving life. Carol was a cancer survivor; in lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Abramson Cancer Center at Penn Medicine by going to pennmedicine.org/giving.
