Carl Gordon Moore, Sr.

Carl Gordon Moore, Sr., 95, of Wilmington, DE, passed away from natural causes on March 26, 2017, in the St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington, DE with his wife and daughter by his side.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Marie (O’Toole) Moore, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage and raised eight children. They were married November 3, 1951 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Born December 28, 1921 in Zanesville, OH, Carl was the son of the late Henry Carl and Hilda Marie (Oberfield) Moore.

He was a graduate of West Newton High School, PA, Georgia Institute of Technology, 1946, B.Ch. Engineering, and Carnegie Institute of Technology, 1948, M.Ch. Engineering.

Carl was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Reserve Corps, Ordnance Department. He was stationed in Oak Ridge, TN.

Prior to his retirement, Carl worked as a Research Chemist at DuPont, Wilmington, DE. During retirement he taught high school and community technical college, tutored students, and was a teaching assistant in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Delaware. Carl loved teaching, being a Boy Scout leader, and was an excellent dancer.

He was a member of the Church of the Holy Child Catholic Church, Wilmington, DE.

In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by four sons, Carl G., Jr., North East, MD, Patrick J., Houston, TX, Michael A., Des Plaines, IL, and Terence J. (Paula), Olney, MD; four daughters, Martina L. Culik Moore (Jerome S.), Nottingham, PA., Maureen E. Radi (Mark L.), Savoy, IL, Regina M. Bator, (Robert J., Jr.), Wyomissing, PA, and Madeleine A. Faust (Daniel G.), Arlington, VA.

He is also survived by four grandsons, Robert J. Bator, III, Thomas M. Bator, Christopher D. Faust, and Ethan J. Moore; four granddaughters, Ellly C. Radi Willette (Ian), Christina L. Radi, Katherine E. Faust, and Elaina M. Faust; six nephews and one niece.

In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by three sisters: Helen M. Sweeney, Marilyn L. Locker, and Dolores J. Sachs.

Funeral Services

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Church of the Holy Child Catholic Church, 2500 Naamans Rd, Wilmington, DE 19810. The service will be preceded by a visitation that will begin at 10:00 AM and run until the time of the service. Interment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
