Bohuslawa Z. P. Bass, “Bushka”, age 91, passed away on Tuesday January 3, 2017 at her residence in Kennett Square, PA.
Bushka was born in Poland in 1925. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Leon Zabko Potapovich and Natalie Petriv. At the start of the Second World War the family, including her brother Bogdan, moved to Germany to escape the Soviets. In 1947 the family immigrated to the USA and settled in Chester, PA. Her father was editor of the Ukrainian Baptist Magazine, translator for the British Bible Society and Pastor emeritus of the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church Crum Lynne, PA. Bushka was a lifelong member of this church, Sunday school teacher and social worker, helping to settle Ukrainian refuges from 1980-1990.
In 1953 Bushka graduated from Bryn Mawr and started to work at DuPont as a translator with knowledge of five languages. She went to Drexel University two years later to get her masters in library and information sciences. She returned to work at DuPont as a librarian and retired in 1985 as supervisor of several libraries of the Textile Fibers Department.
Bushka was one excellent cook, loved to entertain, had green thumbs in the garden and was heavily involved in her church.
Bushka is survived by her husband of 47 years Stephen Bass. They lived in Wilmington and moved to Kennett Square in 2003. She was actively involved in several committees, food, music, book reviews.
