Bette Louise Good

Bette Louise (Johnson) Good, 96 years old, of Glen Mills, PA, formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on April 17, 2020, surrounded by the love of her family and her devoted caregivers.

Bette was a nursing graduate of the old Wilmington Memorial Hospital.

After her marriage to her husband Al in 1945, she worked at the Doylestown Hospital and later became a visiting nurse throughout Bucks County. Upon their return to Wilmington, Al began a long career at Hercules and Bette focused on raising their young family.

Bette and Al were active in Aldersgate United Methodist Church, helping it grow from its original store front location.

Bette carried on after the 1981 passing of Al, the love of her life. She moved to the Maris Grove retirement community in 2006, where she lived happily and made many new friends.

She is survived by her children Jan Mariconda of Doylestown, PA, Cathy Sanger of Glen Allen, VA and David Good (Lori) of Collierville, TN; her five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Burial will be private, and a memorial service will be planned for a future date.

Condolences

Rob Johnson lit a candle and writes,
My condolences go out to my cousins Dave, Jan and Cathy and the rest of their families. There are so many memories over so many years. Playing in the pool in Penarth. Shooting pool at the house in Sharpley. Family get togethers at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Aunt Bette was like a second Mom to me and my brothers and sisters. She now has peace which hopefully we can all share.

    Nancy Sutherland writes,
Dear Jan, Cathy, and Dave, I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. What a wonderful person she was! Always so positive and interested in all we were doing. She was such a pleasure to visit with when we came to visit and she was especially helpful when it became more difficult to visit with my mom as the dementia took its toll. She was my strong mentor as I struggled with the passing of Jim in 2000. I have so many fond memories of day-tripping with mother and Aunt Bette, Christmas dinners at your house, visiting with them on Sunday afternoons when I was in Delaware, to a hysterical card game when we were trying to remember the rules. She was a delight and someone I hope to emulate as I grow older! Love to all of the family she will be missed! Nancy

    Robert Wallace Johnson III writes,
Aunt Bette shared memories that were funny, heart felt, and always ended with a hug; and consistently read my sermons and encouraged me during my seminary studies at Lancaster Theological Seminary. During my last visit she said, “We have a good family, not everyone does.” She taught me a lot about life, love, and family.

Ellen Johnson lit a candle and writes,
What a kind, genuine, selfless and compassionate woman she was. A loving aunt and great aunt to the Johnson family and so many wonderful memories spent with her for all these years. One of my most prized is introducing her to my dog Nala, Great Dane, a year after her bailey crossed the rainbow bridge. What a life well lived and so much love shared.

Cathy, Jan, Dave & families, What an amazing woman! Over the years, I have heard multiple members of our family say "when I grow up I want to be Aunt Bette". There are so many fond memories over so many years. She and I often joked about our "special bond" after I spent that summer with your family when I was an infant and my family traveled to California. We also shared a love of classic Mustangs. She was my second mom and I am a better person for having known and loved her. We will miss her dearly! Love, Steve

Sheila Johnson lit a candle and writes,
Dear Jan, Cathy, Dave and Families, Your Mom (and grandmother) truly was an unparalleled rare gem who bettered the lives of everyone who was blessed to know her. Her unconditional love for everyone, family #1, knew no bounds and I am grateful and better for my decades sharing this life with her. Aunt Bette being a part of special family celebrations with mine, at our homes in Wilmington then Rockville, all throughout Robert and Ellen's growing years wonderfully transitioned into us visiting and spending time with her during her Maris Grove years from I/we will always cherish her and the memories. May you find comfort from each other and your memories knowing she peacefully moved onto eternal life.

Jan, Kathy & Dave, I was so sorry to see your Mom's obit in the paper this morning. WOW...96 years old. She was just an amazing lady. Over the years I have enjoyed staying in touch with her. I would call her from time to time, but mostly I enjoyed visiting her at her house in Sharpley or up at Maris Grove. She was an easy person to visit and always loved hearing about how my family was doing. Bette also liked telling me about how all of you were doing. She was so proud of her family. I will be passing this info on to my brother Alan. He too thought the world of your Mom. I would hope that when things get back to "normal" that you will let me know about any Celebration of Life Service. Kim & I would love to be a part of that Celebration. Thoughts and Prayer to all of you. Gary Burgmuller

Dave , I was so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. She was such a sweet and friendly person. Back in the day I would occasionally see her in Sharpley and we would chat. Rich and I send our deepest sympathy. Bette was such a special friend and a soul mate of my Mom, Louise Fortner. Bette was always happy and had unwavering faith in God. She assured Mom often that God would take care of things. What an inspiration she was.

    Lois Schafer writes,
This message addressed to Bette’s grieving children. Our friendship grew when we both moved into Maris Grove. We took turns driving to Aldersgate for Sunday School and Church on a regular basis and also partnered playing wii bowling. After her move to Rose Court, this all ceased. Her presence is missed by her many friends. She was a sweetheart and a most wonderful Mother.
