Bart Edward Holm

Bart Edward Holm, age 93, of West Grove, PA, passed away on October 31, 2019.

Born in Newark, New Jersey in 1925, Bart graduated from Cornell University in 1948 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Mid-way through college, he served for two years in the US Army during World War II. After a short period with Standard Oil of Ohio, he began a life-long career with the DuPont Co., settling with his family in Wilmington in 1958. He was predeceased by first wife Kathleen, second wife Maryanna and daughter Paula. He is survived by his daughter Janet and son Craig, grandchildren Justin, Ryan, Lauren, Taylor, Shannon, Spencer and Connor and great grandchildren Griffin, Mason, Lucas and Atlas.

His career with DuPont began in the Engineering Dept. and moved to Information Systems. He particularly enjoyed the years when he spoke throughout the world, introducing personnel at DuPont sites to computer technology as it first emerged.

During personal time, he loved planning family camping trips, gardening, competitive long-distance running and summers at the property on Lake Champlain that has been in his family since the 1700’s. He also always made time to serve his community and church in various volunteer roles.

When he moved to Jenner’s Pond Retirement Community in West Grove, PA, he happily found friends, activities and new volunteer roles, while continuing to explore new parts of the world around summers alongside Lake Champlain.

Blessed with a long, healthy and full life, he will be most missed and cherished by his family for his steadfast presence and love, dependability, strong opinions, outstanding role modeling and the very high expectations he set for himself and supported in others.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, November 30, 11:00am at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennan’s Church Road, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Gilliland Community Cemetery, Inc. (near Bart’s Lake Champlain property and named for his ancestors), c/o Gerber, 409 Reading Avenue, Rockville, MD 20850.
