Barbara Sezna Gehret

Barbara Sezna Gehret, 81, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2025.

Born in 1944 to Jean Grier Sezna and Walter William Sezna, Barbara graduated from Monticello College in Alton, Illinois. She began her career as a press correspondent for Gordon McClendon of McClendon Broadcasting Systems and was stationed in Vietnam during the war.

Barbara will be remembered for her bright smile, loving heart, and gracious hospitality. A devoted and loving mother, she was the creator of a warm and welcoming home where family and friends always felt embraced. An exceptional cook, she found great joy in preparing meals and sharing them with others. Barbara was also an avid golfer and a gifted needlepointer, approaching life with energy, creativity, and grace.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John F. Gehret; her sister, Diane Sezna; and her brother, Ronald Sezna. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Sezna; her brother, Davis Sezna and his wife Barbara; her children, Grier Hickman and Shepard Myers; and her grandchildren, JJ Hickman and Benjamin Hickman.

She will also be fondly remembered by her many loving caregivers.

Barbara’s love, warmth, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A private service will be held to celebrate her life.
