Barbara (Bebe) Ehlert Shreffler, age 95, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, Barbara was the daughter of the late Paul and Caroline Ussler Ehlert. She graduated from the Santa Rosa Hospital in 1943 and was commissioned as a 1st Lt. in the Army stationed at Brooks Army Hospital at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.
Barbara started her career in Delaware at the Delaware Hospital E.R., then as a nurse for the Delaware Public Health Department. She then worked for Dr. Frank T. O’Brien as a private thoracic O.R. nurse. After retiring from Dr. O’Brien’s office, she became the Head Nurse of Central Supply at Riverside Hospital in Wilmington, DE.
Barbara was a member of the Hanover Presbyterian Church for over 49 years where she served as a Deacon. She then transferred membership to the Presbyterian Church of The Covenant where she served as President of the Women of Covenant and was elected Presbyterian Woman of the Year.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Niles Bretz Shreffler whom she met in 1944 during WWII. She is survived by her daughters; Myra Shreffler, Sherry Shreffler both of Wilmington, DE and Carol Odachowski (Alfred) of Lutz, FL, 2 grandsons; Jeffery and Gregory Odachowski. She was blessed with a large extended family and many friends.
