Barbara and Lawrence Kimball

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lawrence Kimball and his wife Barbara Marie Milian of Wilmington, Delaware who passed away within weeks of each other in March.

Larry was born in Newburgh, New York, in November of 1935, to Warren Kimball and Rosella Hoban.  He graduated from Hartwick College in 1957, being a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and earning a B.A. in biological science.  After graduating college, Larry joined the United States Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

Larry worked most of his life as a chemist at Congoleum Corp. later becoming plant manager.  Throughout his life, Larry excelled in basketball, tennis, and baseball, playing for the schools and colleges he attended as well as for the U.S. Army.  Larry was humble, funny, and a charming gentleman who enjoyed watching old movies and doing puzzles.  He fought a tough battle with Parkinson’s Disease but after three weeks of being without his wife, he was ready to see her again.  On March 24, 2023, Larry went to be with Barbara to begin a new journey together.

Barbara was born to Marie Mackey and Manuel Milian in November of 1941, in Cornwall, NY.  In 1959, she graduated from Cornwall High where she enjoyed playing sports, acting in plays, and was voted best dancer by her classmates.   That same year, Barbara received a tiara, sash and roses when she was voted runner-up in the Miss New Windsor Pageant.  During the summer, she enjoyed picking up her girlfriends and driving to the Jersey beaches in her ’57 Chevy.  Barbara was funny, courageous, and a person that knew everyone’s name working at the local grocery stores and banks.   While she fought a brave battle with cancer, she could not win the war.

Together for sixty years, Larry and Barbara built a long and happy life that included raising three children, four cats, and traveling to Cancun for over 40 years.  They made sure they always had chocolate on hand, a freezer full of ice cream, and a closet full of suntan lotion.  They both loved their three grandchildren and had a great sense of pride watching them grow up.

Larry and Barbara are survived by their three children, Todd (Amanda), Scott (Tina), and Laurie Ann (Edward Sadler), grandchildren William (Jackie), Alex, and Samantha (Jake Pelligrino).  They are also survived by their many cousins in New York and numerous friends they met in Cancun that they call family.

On behalf of Barbara and Larry, the Kimball family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Maryanne Sosnowski.  An angel, caregiver and puzzle helper that was sent to provide support and care for Larry and Barbara during their tough battles.   Her compassion, kindness and patience was greatly appreciated by all.  Maryanne brought so much love, light and joy to the entire family.   People say there’s nothing more of a blessing than to have a great caregiver.  Maryanne is that blessing and a friend to the entire family.

I am so very sad to learn of Barbara and Larry’s passing. We spent many good times with them in Cancun for many, many years. Barbara loved sun and Larry loved to sit under his umbrella and read. We met at the Royal Caribbean and every May, upon arrival, we would head out to the pool area to say hello before heading to our Villa. I lost my husband, Terry, to PD last April so I hope they are Whooping it up in heaven together!!

Barbara and Larry will be greatly missed. They were good "Cancun" friends to my parents, Agnes and Monty and my Aunt Rosemary and Uncle Jim, but became friends to George and I after my parents passed. Always a bright spot in our Cancun trips and a card at Christmas. So sorry for your loss.
