Antoinette Rabil Bradley

Antoinette Rabil Bradley of Wilmington, DE passed onto the next life on July 10th, 2022. She died of natural causes and passed peacefully in her sleep. She was 89 years old.

Antoinette was born in Dinard, a small coastal town in Brittany, France; the 3rd girl in a growing family. She attended La Sorbonne in Paris and studied Math, Physics & Chemistry. Her fluency in both French and English enabled her to find work as a translator for the UN, as well as work for the US Army.

Later in life she obtained a BS in the field of Accounting from Rutgers University, passed the CPA exam, and utilized her knowledge of both business and accounting to serve as a member of SCORE; mentoring aspiring small business owners.

But Antoinette’s real talents were as an artist and seamstress. As a young mother on a budget, she sewed her own clothes and was skilled enough to copy designs she saw in magazines. As an adult, Antoinette displayed her strong talent as a watercolor artist through her paintings which won her awards from the DE Watercolor Society as well as the Rehoboth Art League.

Antoinette met her first husband, Mitchell J Rabil, while they were both working at a US army base just outside Paris. They married in 1956 and ultimately settled in Riverton, NJ where they raised their 4 children. In 1989, she married David W. Bradley whom she had met playing bridge. They enjoyed a long retirement life together in a home they built at the Kings Creek CC in Rehoboth Beach, DE.

Antoinette was predeceased by her husband, David Bradley, her parents, and 3 of her 8 siblings. She is survived by her 4 children Elizabeth Rabil-Perez, Nathalie Gooding, Marcus Rabil and A. Gregory Rabil, 6 grandchildren, 4 of her siblings, and her many nieces and nephews.

Antoinette will be greatly missed by her family, friends and the many people who knew and loved her for her unique personality, strong intellect, artistic talent, and love of learning.

A memorial service to honor her memory will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 11:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19701. A visitation will be held from 10:30-11:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home.

I recall Antoinete very well from lively conversations at French lunches. She was especially interested in discussing good novels with me, and we exchanged some. She was also very devoted to taking care of her husband, David, when he was failing. She had a long and interesting life in France and in the United States. I am sure she will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.

Antoinette made every space brighter, every discussion deeper, and every smile wider. I first met her in 2009 at Socrates Cafe which at Rehoboth Beach Library and we then shared the joy of 'La Table Francaise,' a French conversation group, for several years. She shared her art work, her sparkling insights, her wit and wisdom with many. What a gift to have known Antoinette Bradley! Her spirit remains with me. May I convey to her family my great respect and deepest condolences. Merci, et adieu. --Kathleen Baker, Dover, DE.

Antoinette was my father’s David W.Bradley wife. I have very fond memories of Antoinette in our family gatherings. She was a very kind smart lady who had a lot to say. I always found her to be quite interesting to talk to. I had moved to NH when they moved on to Delaware. We didn’t get to see them as much but we always enjoyed our visits with them. They made it up to nh a few times but they always liked to get back to Rhode Island to see her daughter. She was a great painter who painted one of my cats. She was also a great seamstress. I got a beautiful sweater & a dress I will always remember them cause I loved wearing them when they fit lol. I will always miss not seeing her & my dad. Good good memories Rest In Peace & thank u for helping me when I was struggling. I will always appreciate it.
