Angelo Delis

Angelo Delis, 76, of Milton, Delaware, died on March 29, 2025 after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Manhattan, New York in 1948 to Constantine and Ariadne (Papangelou) Fkiaradelis, Greek immigrants from the Aegean island of Lemnos. He grew up in the Astoria neighborhood in Queens and graduated from W.C. Bryant High School in 1966 before attending City College of New York. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Upon returning home, Angelo began his long career in the wine and spirits business at the iconic Astor Wines & Spirits in Lower Manhattan. He would pause this endeavor with a stint at The George Washington University in Washington D.C., but soon after resumed working—this time managing Astor Home Liquor in Laurel, Maryland.  At Astor Home he cultivated a deep and broad knowledge of wine, spirits, and craft beer.  He earned the trust of countless customers and the respect of his peers during his career, but one person in particular caught his eye: his eventual wife of 40 years, Peggy.

Angelo and Peggy married in 1984, had two sons and eventually moved to Eldersburg, Maryland where he continued developing his passion for working on cars and computers; maintaining and adding on to his home, and watching his sons grow. He was also particularly fond of the family cats, Garfield and later Aeris. Retiring to Milton, Delaware with his wife after a career spanning five decades, Angelo lived a relaxed life; hiking many trails around Delaware especially Cape Henlopen State Park, and enjoying afternoon appetizers and beers at local restaurants and pubs.  He enjoyed Liverpool F.C. and Formula 1 on television and many visits with his grandchildren.

Angelo was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Peter. He is survived by his wife, best friend, and love of his life, Peggy; his sons Alexander (Elizabeth) and Andrew (Lindsey); grandchildren Benjamin and Eleni; nieces Katherine and Lisa; and many more nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will occur in the future. His thoughtful decision to donate his remains to the University of Delaware Human Anatomy Lab will not surprise anyone lucky enough to have known him. Contributions may be made in his name to Tunnel Cancer Center Rehoboth DE, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.
