Richard Leslie Johnston

Richard Leslie Johnston of Glen Mills, PA., formerly of Wilmington, DE., passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

Richard was born in Athens PA in 1935, the son of the late Georgia and Leslie Johnston. After serving 2 years in the military and graduating from Penn State University, he lived in Wilmington DE then Glen Mills PA, with his loving wife Jessica of 63 years.

He loved his family, was always present in their daily life and was an avid fan of Penn State Football, North Carolina Basketball, and Boston Celtics. When not watching his teams, he spent time reading. He cherished family time at the Outer Banks with 3 generations of family and friends over 43 years. Fifteen of those years were spent in the family beach home in Frisco NC.

Richard was the consummate professional, retiring from Bank of Delaware (PNC) after more than 30 years as the VP & Sr. Trust Investment Officer. He was known for his lifelong friendships with both colleagues and clients. Richard was a long-standing member and trustee at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Wilmington, DE.  He truly lived a full life with a balance for family and work to provide for all.

Richard was incredibly generous and always concerned for his family’s welfare.  After retirement Richard and Jessica spent their winters in Englewood Florida, making many friends.

He is survived by his beautiful wife Jessica whom he met in college, his sons Jeffrey Dean (wife Nancy 39 yrs.) of Middletown DE, Daryl Whittaker (wife Terri 26 yrs.) of Lexington SC, grandchildren Amanda Long (husband James 5 yrs.), Whittaker Anne Johnston and Grayson Elizabeth Johnston, and great grandchildren Olivia and Brian Long, and sister Sandra Cooke.  A special thank you to Willow Tree Hospice for their amazing care and love over his last weeks.
