Lucille North

Lucille A. (Sipala) North, age 90, of Wilmington, passed away in her home on March 15, 2017.

Lucille was born in Wilmington, DE. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. North, parents, Mary and Frank Sipala, her sisters, Jennie (Sipala) Razze and Mary (Sipala) King, and brothers, Joseph Sipala and Frank Sipala.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Bockrath (Joseph), and her son, Robert North II, both of Wilmington, her grandchildren, Brian Bockrath and Julie Toy, also of Wilmington, 6 great-grandchildren, her brother, George Sipala, and his wife, Helen, of Chadds Ford, PA. She is also survived by her buddy Asher, her faithful companion.

Lucille graduated Wilmington High School in 1944 and attended Goldey Beacom School of Business. She began her career working for TWA at the Wilmington Airport. Later, she also worked for the YWCA of Wilmington, Arden and Newark, and as a Medical Transcriptionist for the Riverside Hospital. She was an active member of the Junior Board for many years, participating in many fundraising activities to purchase much needed equipment for the hospital.

She volunteered for many different charities and important causes over the years. Those programs included the National Cancer Society and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She also served as an Election Officer for many elections.

Lucille will be remembered for her colorful fashion style, her love of shopping and travelling, and her desire to over-feed everyone she loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to your favorite charity in Lucille’s name.

Funeral Services

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 11:00 in the Chapel at Delaware Veteran Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE.
