Joseph Dougherty Sisson, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2017 in the Compassionate Care Unit of St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Helen D. Sisson.
Joe was a graduate of Claymont High School where he was an outstanding athlete. He was a State Champion sprinter and hurdler and set the record (now tied by many) for the most interceptions in the 1958 Delaware Blue-Gold All Star football game. Joe was a United States Navy veteran having served on the USS Northampton. He was a police officer for the City of Dover and NCC Police Department for a number of years. After that, Joe had a long and distinguished career as a business sales representative for several major companies.
Joe is survived by his children, Vicki Petrucci and her daughters Dani, Tara, and Anna; Terri Sisson Truono and her husband Mark and their children Bella and Nicholas; a son Scott and daughter Shannon of Montgomery County, PA. He is also survived by three brothers, Jim of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Tom of San Antonio, TX, and Don of Elizabeth City, NC, along with a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes his body will be donated to the Humanity Gifts Registry for medical research so that he can serve as a “silent teacher” to those in training for a medical career.
