John A. McDonough, 91, passed away on March 26, 2017 after a short illness.
John was born in Geneva, New York to the late Leo and Catherine McDonough. John joined the Navy Air Corps during World War II and served in the Pacific as a naval radioman and gunner. After the war, he returned to Geneva where he met his future wife, Janet Jaeger. They married in 1949 and were happily married for sixty years until her death in 2009. He earned a B.S. Degree in chemical engineering from the University of Detroit in 1952 and went to work for DuPont upon graduation. He became a salesman for DuPont and worked for twenty years in Akron, Ohio before becoming Sales Manager for DuPont and moving to Wilmington in 1978. After retirement, he and Janet traveled and he did volunteer work for several different non-profit organizations. He was also very active in St. Mary Magdalen Church. In 2006 he and Janet moved to Maris Grove in Glen Mills, PA where he became active in St. Cornelius Church.
John was very generous with both his time and treasure and he was devoted to his large family. He is survived by his sister, Ann Dailor of Rochester, New York, and his children, Phyllis Horisk (Tony), Carol McDonough (Jay), Michael McDonough (Beth), Laura Shary (Mark), Amy Edmanson (Ray), David McDonough, and Mark McDonough (Heidi). In addition he is survived by his fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
