Genevieve Tingle Crampton, 92, formerly of Centreville, Delaware passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Jenner’s Pond, West Grove, Pennsylvania. She was born in 1929, in Roxana, Delaware, daughter of Charles and Daisy Tingle. In addition to her parents and five siblings, she was predeceased August 18, 1984, by her husband of 31 years, Joseph A. Crampton, Jr.
Genny lived a long life of devotion to her family and helping others in her community. She was always accepting new challenges and encouraging those around her to do the same, especially her daughters, Christie C Selway, Cindy Jones, and Jessica Crampton Bradley, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Genny graduated from Lord Baltimore School, Ocean View, Delaware as class valedictorian in 1947. She enrolled in business courses at Beacom School, currently Goldey-Beacom College in 1948, and continued business courses at the University of Delaware the following year. She then began working at the Dupont Company in Seaford, where she met and married her husband Joe in 1953. Joe was transferred by Dupont to North Carolina, and Genny became a homemaker and stay-at-home Mom for the next 20+ years. Cook, housekeeper, Scout leader, loyal church choir member, church treasurer, teacher, talented seamstress, firm advisor, regular volunteer, chaperone, driver, and supportive parent and wife. She was a strong-willed woman who “practiced what she preached”.
Genny returned to working outside the home in the 1980’s when she worked numerous years at Hagley Museum, the Historical Society of Delaware, and participated in extensive programs for children of all ages. She also became a successful real estate agent with Patterson Schwartz. She had a true passion for history, especially American history, animals, especially dogs and cats, and outdoor sports, especially skiing. Genny continued to sing in the church choir at Peninsula McCabe Methodist Church and the Blue Rock choral group. She spent many months each year preparing, organizing, and running the annual Wilmington Flower Market. Genny was also an active member and officer of International PEO Sisterhood that provides educational opportunities for female students worldwide. In short, Genny never said “no” when asked to help someone, something, somewhere, and she always did so with a smile on her face and a positive attitude.
Celebration of Genny’s life will be held at a later date and interment will be private.
