Robert L. Artest

Robert L. Artest of Landenberg, PA passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the age of 80. He left this world peacefully with his wife Christa, daughter, Gabriela and son-in-law Tom, by his side.

Bob was born in Accoville, West Virginia on February 19, 1941. His parents were Denver and Gladys and he was one of 5 children. Bob developed a love for music at Wahama High School in Mason, West Virginia and dreamed of being the leader of his own band. An accomplished trumpet player, Bob joined the Army in 1959 and enjoyed a wonderful career in the Army band. He met Christa when stationed in Berlin, Germany where they married. He also spent several years stationed in Heidelberg where he had the great experience of touring all over Europe with the band. It was one of the best times of his life.

After Bob left the Army, he moved to Brooklyn, New York with his family where he had a long career with AT&T. Bob, known as Peepa to his grandchildren, Amanda and Steven, took great pleasure in being silly and playing with them when they were little. More recently he took delight in the amusing antics of his young great-grandson, Everett.

Bob was always happiest at home and enjoyed reading, working on cars, puttering around the house, and working in his gorgeous yard. He liked to keep busy and always had multiple projects in progress that he completed in between many coffee and snack breaks. Bob also enjoyed the outdoors and scenery of our beautiful country and traveled out west several times with Christa to the national parks.

Bob is survived by his wife, Christa; daughter, Gabriela; grandchildren Amanda and Steven; great-grandson, Everett; sister, Mary; and brothers Ralph, Jim, and Daniel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
