John L. LaRue

John L. LaRue, age 81, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026.

Born in Buffalo, New York, John was a longtime resident of Wilmington, Delaware, where he built a life centered on family, friendship, service, and devotion to those he loved.

John proudly served his country in the National Guard and was a longtime member of the Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Company, where he served as a firefighter and dedicated countless hours to his community. Throughout his career, he worked as a District Manager for Tastykake before embarking on a new chapter alongside his beloved wife, Anne. For the past thirty years, they worked side by side building and operating Jennifer-Anne Designs, a partnership that reflected their shared commitment, hard work, and love.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Inez and Daniel LaRue, and his sister, Patricia Koenig.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anne LaRue; his children, Dawn Hughes (John), Michael LaRue, Jennifer Godlewski (Tom), and Heather Brown (Mike); and his cherished grandchildren, Noah, Joshua, Kaitlyn, Aidan, Jackson, Andrew, Matthew, and Alexis. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and best friend, George Alford, and sister-in-law Vicki Alford, as well as many nieces, grandnieces, and step-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

John found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time on his front porch talking with neighbors and friends, always ready with a story, a joke, or a listening ear. He treasured time with his grandchildren, and some of his happiest moments were spent during family holidays when all the grandchildren gathered to play board games, laugh, and create memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Those who knew John will remember his strength of character, extraordinary kindness, generous spirit, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a unique ability to make people feel welcome and valued. The love and devotion he shared with his family, the friendships he nurtured throughout his life, and the example he set through service and compassion will leave a lasting impact on all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 24, 2026. Family and friends are invited to contact the family for additional details.

John’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends and in the countless lives he touched through his kindness, laughter, and unwavering love.
