George J. Glenn III

George J. Glenn, III, passed on August 24, 2026, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 17, 1942, in Wilmington, Delaware. A son to the late George J. Glenn, II and Vera Glenn. He was a 1960 graduate of Salesianum High School. He went on to play college football at Ferrum junior college and then East Tennessee State, from where he graduated in 1967. He served his country in the United State Army from 1967-1969

He returned to Wilmington as an educator and coach at his Alma Mater Salesianum for 21 years. Winning the Delaware State Football Championship in 1986. After his time at Salesianum he moved to Lewes, Delaware where he coached for 4 years and served as a driver education instructor at Cape Henlopen High School. He went on to be Cape’s Athletic Director until his retirement in 2010, while also building a successful landscape and lighting business in Lewes, DE.

He went on to serve as Chief of Staff for the Omaha Nighthawks, a professional football team in Omaha, Nebraska. After his time in Omaha he relocated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he served as Director of Football Operations at Coastal Carolina University from 2011-2019 while still maintaining his Christmas Decor Lighting Franchise in Lewes.

George is preceded in death by father, George J. Glenn II, his mother Vera Glenn and his sister Catherine Fleming. He is survived by his sister Janice Sanna, his four children Joseph Glenn and his wife Jennifer, John Glenn and his wife Jennifer, Christopher Glenn, Kelly Zahorchak and her husband Michael, his loving companion Lynn Welden and her children Caroline and Kaitlyn, 9 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and first wife Penny Glenn.

Friends and Family will be received at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, from 4:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2026. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, September 4, 2026, at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church. A visitation prior to the service will be held from 9:30 to 10:30am with the service to begin at 10:30am. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the football program at Salesianum High School 1801 N. Broom St. Wilmington, DE 19802 in memory of George J. Glenn, III.
