Robert B. Flint, Jr.

Robert B. Flint, Jr. peacefully passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease on May 28, 2026 in Woodside, California. Born in 1940 in Wilmington, Delaware to Robert and Lucile Flint, Rob was the first born of five children including Peter, Alice, Henry and Consie.
Rob attended Hotchkiss for high school, graduated from Yale in 1962, and moved to California for graduate work in electrical engineering at Stanford. It was through a job posting on a bulletin board at Stanford that sent Rob on an adventurous career. The ad called for someone who was able to “maintain complex electromechanical systems in Antarctica, immediately.” Rob applied and found himself for a year’s commitment at Byrd station in central Antarctica. Thus began a career on the continent to which he returned many times including two tourist visits with his family. In between expeditions Rob was an active philanthropist, fundraiser and community volunteer. He served on the boards of the Sierra Club Foundation, Woodside Elementary School, Woodside Community Foundation. He was instrumental in major community projects like the renovation of Folger Stable, creation of the Woodside Community Museum, Barkley Field Project, Kiely Equestrian Center, and Woodside Community Theatre, to name a few.
Rob’s warm personality, giving spirit, intellectual curiosity, love of the outdoors and easy laugh will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife Susan, his son Alexis (Andrea), daughter Katie (Ben) and grandchildren Caden, Elliot, Evelina and Oliver and all his siblings. The family would like to extend immense gratitude to his caregiver of the last four years, Lupe Moala for her care and kindness, love and support.

A celebration of life service was held Sunday, July 26 at 2pm at Independence Hall. 2955 Woodside Rd, Woodside, CA 94062. Interment will be private in the duPont Family Cemetery, Wilmington, Delaware.
