Mark R. Dailey

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mark Dailey of Elsmere, Delaware, who left this world on July 31, 2026, at the age of 75. Born in 1951 and raised in Wilmington, DE by parents Alice and George Dailey, Mark was a 1969 graduate of A.I. Dupont High School and later graduated from Delaware Technical Institute with a degree in architectural design. While our hearts are heavy with grief, we are forever grateful for the love, laughter, and music that Mark shared so generously throughout his life.

Music was one of Mark’s greatest gifts. Mark played in the popular band Martin and Dailey in the 80’s and 90’s, performing at shows and weddings all across the United States. For the past 20 years, Mark played drums with the band Helix and regularly played events across Delaware.  Whether performing, singing, playing an instrument, or simply sharing a favorite song, he had a natural talent that brought joy and comfort to those fortunate enough to listen. Music was more than a passion, it was an extension of his heart and soul, touching the lives of family, friends, and everyone who crossed his path.

Mark dedicated more than twenty years of his career to DART, he genuinely enjoyed the people he worked with, and those relationships became an important part of his life. Many of those friendships endured well beyond the workplace, a testament to the kindness, loyalty, and sincerity that defined him.

Those who knew Mark will remember his compassionate soul and genuine kindness that could brighten the rainiest days. His family will remember Mark as a man with a gigantic heart, a gentle spirit, and the deepest love for his cat, Kitty.

Mark is survived by his sister, Diane McGovern of Newark, DE, niece, Heather and her husband Jason Clagg, great nieces, Hadley and Lacey of Philadelphia, PA., brother-in-law Steven McGovern of Wilmington, DE., sister-in-law Alice Snell of Lebanon, PA., and was preceded in death by brother-in-law Phillip McGovern and nephew Benjamin McGovern.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional nurses, doctors, and staff at Christiana Hospital for the professionalism, compassion, and outstanding care they provided during Mark’s final days.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 2pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike Hockessin, DE. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate a life that was beautifully lived and deeply cherished.
