Miles Julian, age 94, died May 10, 2026 at Cokesbury village.
Miles was born in 1932, in Dallas, Texas, the only child of John Frank and Frances Miles Julian. He graduated from high school in Dallas and then from Rice University with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He later earned an MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston. After two years’ service on a US Navy destroyer during the Korean War, he married his college sweetheart, Martha Parse and embarked on a 42-year career with DuPont.
Miles worked primarily on design, construction and startup of new chemical plants at various locations in the US and Europe. His last assignment was as a Principal Consultant in the Engineering Evaluations group of DuPont’s Engineering Department in Wilmington.
Wherever he lived, Miles was active in the Presbyterian Church, other civic, charitable and professional organizations and later in the resident activities at Cokesbury Village. For many years he was a lecturer and industrial consultant to the Chemical Engineering departments at Lehigh University and the University of Pennsylvania.
In his fifties Miles became interested in personal computers, used them in his work and for the benefit of several non-profit organizations and taught continuing education courses on the use of spreadsheets for engineering calculations.
He is survived by daughters Ellen (Gerald Ellege) and Betsy (Jeff Pyne), and grandchildren Robin and Arthur Ellege, and Lacey Sherman.
