Dorothy M. Wooster of Hockessin, passed away in her sleep on May 8, 2021 at age 94.
Dorothy, also known as Dot or Dottie, was born in Charlottesville, VA to the late Jason I. Eckford and Elizabeth D. Eckford
She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Harley K. Wooster. She is survived by her children, Elaine, Keith, Elizabeth, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Lane High School in Charlottesville, attended Mary Washington College and continued at the University of Virginia during WWII when women were allowed to study nursing or education. She graduated with a degree in mathematics education and went on to teach high school math in Virginia. Some of her students were older GIs returning from the war.
She met and married her husband in Charlottesville but later they moved to the Wilmington, DE area.
She was an active member of Pennisula-McCabe United Methodist Church in the choir, the Seidel Couples class, Methodist Women’s Society and taught in the church Pre-School.
She also taught at H.B. duPont Middle School. In her later years, she volunteered helping English language learners.
She was a member of PEO and for many years sang with the Blue Rock Chorus.
Skiing began as a family activity but a membership with the Wilmington Ski Club had her still skiing into her 80s. As an avid gardener, gardening kept her busy during the growing season. Sailing on the Chesapeake Bay was an activity she enjoyed with her husband for many years. Travel was a big part of her life, having traveled much of the United States and visited many countries.
