Evelyn Ruth Motsinger, age 65, passed away on March 27, 2021 at Seasons Hospice Wilmington Hospital after a long battle with Metastatic Ovarian Cancer. Even though Evelyn will be sadly missed, God has taken her to a better place where she is residing with her deceased parents and no longer suffering from this disease.
Evelyn completed her undergraduate degree from University of Florida, Gainesville, and continued her education at the University of NC, Chapel Hill specializing in Occupational Therapy. Evelyn became a OTR-L (Occupational Therapist Registered and licensed). She joined the US Army, proudly serving as an occupational therapist, primarily treating traumatic brain injury, doing inpatient care and neurological rehabilitation. She functioned as the chief therapist at her last duty station, Madigan Army Medical Center at Ft. Lewis, WA. Evelyn was always a competitor and an athlete. As a Captain in the Army, she set the standard by always maximizing the Army Physical Fitness Test and in the process frequently out did most of the men. Evelyn loved the outdoors and became a highly competitive mountain bike racer. She resigned from the Army to pursue civilian life as an OTR-L.
Evelyn came back to the East Coast and found her permanent position as a OTR-L at Wilmington Veterans Medical Center, DE, where she planned and administered medically prescribed occupational therapy for mentally, emotional and physical disabled patients. Evelyn was passionate about what she did and cared deeply for the lives she touched, stroke/heart attack victims, head injuries, severe burn, amputees, spinal cord trauma patients. Her goal was always to improve skills for daily living and work. After twenty years of service, Evelyn retired shortly after being diagnosed with Metastatic Ovarian Cancer, Fall, 2017. She was a fighter, strong-willed, never giving up hope for recovery from this cancer. Her immediate family was her three beautiful cats. She is survived by her two sisters, Bobbie Mandro, Janice Motsinger, her niece, Jackie Moore with husband, RJ Moore, and great-niece Kailey.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to Dr. Harry Smolen, MAMC, Tacoma, WA, for his love and support of our sister throughout her career and retirement.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Evelyn’s memory to Faithful Friends Animal Shelter, New Castle County, DE (faithfulfriends.us).
