Peter Noyes Greeley

Peter Noyes Greeley, age 85, passed away at home on June 30, 2017 after a long illness from kidney failure.

He was the son of Lawrence Hurd Greeley and Anna Noyes Greeley. As a youth he was an Eagle Scout and later served as scout master. He attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Peter was a member of the 294th Field Artillery in El Paso, Texas with the US. Army. He joined T.B. O’Toole Realtors in 1957. He started his own company, Peter N. Greeley Real Estate in 1977 and was president until he retired in 2002. In the early 1980’s he started his building development company.

Peter enjoyed traveling with his family, fishing, waterskiing and golfing at the Wilmington Country Club. He was chairman of the finance committee to elect Bill Roth to Congress and the Senate. He was on the Board of Directors of the Delaware Chapter of the American Red Cross and also on the Board of the New Church Theological School as well as a director of the school. He served on many New Castle County Board committees.
The family would like to thank Home Instead, Fresenius Medical Care, Sarah Torrigiani MD and especially his caregiver Wanda Henderson who understood him well.

He is predeceased by his brother Larry and a sister Kathleen. Peter is survived by his wife of 58 years, Faith Poole Greeley, daughters Karen Pena (Charles) of Arlington, VA, Susan Abelson (Jeremy) of Chadds Ford, PA and Laura Greeley of Wilmington, and grandchildren Cullen Abelson, Charlotte Abelson and Marin Pena. He is also survived by his brother Robert Greeley (Judy) of Kennett Square, PA and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services

 

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday July 29, 2017 at the Church of the Holy City, Pennsylvania Avenue and Broom Street, Wilmington, DE. Contributions in Peter’s memory may be made to The Church of the Holy City, 1118 N. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19806 or to a charity of your choice.
