Dennis Anthony Meloro

We are deeply saddened to recognize the passing of Dennis Anthony Meloro, 47, a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, mentor, and friend. Dennis passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

Dennis was the loving, steady foundation of his family. As a devoted father to Anthony and Gianna, they were his purpose, his passion, and his greatest source of pride and love. He knew that every moment with them was a gift and made it his life’s purpose to protect, love, and inspire them.  With his sister, Jennifer Meloro – whom he lovingly called Sar” – Dennis shared a lifelong and unbreakable bond, one in which they called each other “Dear Brother” and “Dear Sister.”   Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Dennis William and mother, Merle Leigh.

Born in Philadelphia, Dennis attended St. Joseph’s Prep, where he embraced being a man for and with others. Dennis’s commitment to The Prep never waivered, continuing to mentor and support other alumni through the years.  Dennis always had a passion for law and became a lawyer after graduating from Cornell University and Widener University School of Law. He began his legal career at Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Wilmington, Delaware office in 2002 as a summer associate, joined as a first-year associate in 2003, and remained a loyal and highly respected shareholder of the firm for the duration of his practice as a Restructuring and Special Situations attorney. He was a member of the rowing team at The Prep and at Cornell University, and served as a member of the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network. Additionally, Dennis was a Member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the American Bar Association.

In both his legal career and his life, Dennis was known as a “Man of the People” – someone who could understand and relate to anyone he encountered. He expressed this in many ways, from his love of boats, fishing, tractors, and dogs to his ability to make a reference to “The Simpsons” in any situation.  His passion for boating had its roots early in life, obtaining a boating license at 8 years old and spending his childhood summers at the shore, enjoying boating, fishing, jet skiing and swimming.

Committed to his work and clients for more than 20 years, Dennis handled virtually every type of matter in Delaware’s Bankruptcy Courts. His intimate understanding of the Bankruptcy Code and Delaware bankruptcy practice allowed him to provide essential insight to clients. For this, he was regularly recognized by numerous organizations, including The Best Lawyers in America and Delaware Today. Dennis’s fellow lawyers admired him for his exceptional legal mind and congenial manner, describing him as the ultimate professional who eschewed personal accolades and remained focused above all on client service and his family. Many, having worked with him for nearly two decades, lauded his skill, judgment, and integrity, noting also that Dennis never lost sight of the human stakes underlying every matter that came across his desk. His steadfast commitment to legal excellence and support for his colleagues meant he was always there when they needed him.

Attorneys who Dennis mentored remember him as the learned counsel that younger associates turned to first, known for his easygoing demeanor and his habit of making himself available to them at all hours. He listened with patience and offered thoughtful, practical guidance as those around him grew in their careers, they said, noting that he often spoke about what mattered most to him – being a devoted father.

Dennis is survived by his children Anthony and Gianna, his sister Sar, niece Poppy, and countless friends who will forever miss him and aspire to live with the same strength, humility, and wit that made him one of a kind. We will miss his early morning texts that he sent when he was contemplating life while watching the sunrise. For every sunrise we see, we will know that he is there, holding our hands and reminding us to focus on what truly matters.

Services will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026,  from 11 am to 1 pm, at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, Delaware, 19707.
