Maryann L. Vavala

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Maryann L. Vavala, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, peacefully in her sleep. She was 84.

Maryann was a retired Registered Nurse and lived in Bowers Beach, Delaware for 25 years.

Originally from Philadelphia, PA she was the daughter of Mary and William Scholtz. Her favorite pastime was to look out onto the Delaware Bay from her porch where she would sit with her cats and listen to her cockatiels as the sun set. Having made many friends in town, she frequently had visitors who would join her for coffee or wine.

Some of the special childhood memories of our mom were her animal rescues. She was often caring for baby birds, a baby owl, and once a litter of baby bunnies in our home. She also volunteered at several animal sanctuaries while in her retirement.

She is survived by her children David Dubroff and Suzanne Dubroff of Landenberg, PA, and Jennifer Groenwold, of Los Angeles, CA. She has four grandchildren Kenneth Dubroff, Mena Dubroff, Sophie Groenwold and Gabriel Groenwold.
