Marsha Carol Avery

Marsha Carol Avery, age 83, of Kennett Square, PA., passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Marsha was a lifelong learner, successful entrepreneur, and devoted mother. She was born in 1943 to Raymond Jones and Emma Liddle in Greenwich, NY, she was a woman of formidable intelligence and deep conviction who left a lasting mark on her community and her family.

Education was a cornerstone of Marsha’s life. She dedicated herself to academic excellence, earning her undergraduate degree from Kent State University, followed by a Master’s degree from West Chester University in psychology. Her pursuit of knowledge culminated in a PhD and postdoctoral work from Temple University earning her title as a psychoanalyst.

Marsha was equally accomplished in the professional world, where her career spanned several diverse industries. She was the founder and operator of “Young World”, a successful daycare business with three locations across Delaware. After earning her doctorate, she transitioned into clinical work, providing vital counseling and psychoanalysis services to couples and families. Ever a builder of both lives and structures, she spent her later years designing and overseeing the construction of custom homes.

Beyond her professional life, Marsha was a woman of deep creativity and vitality. She found peace and expression at the piano and in front of a canvas, where her love for music and art flourished. For many years, she was also a fixture on the tennis courts, competing with spirit in various leagues and tournaments.

Those who knew Marsha best will remember her for her “honest to a fault” nature. She valued honesty over other virtues, and her forthright nature earned her widespread respect. Above all, she was fiercely protective of her children, serving as their greatest advocate and strongest anchor.

Marsha’s greatest legacy remains the large, vibrant family she leaves behind. She is survived by her siblings, her husband, Leroy “Bud” Avery, her five children: Jon Hoernig, David Hoernig, Michael Hoernig, Laura Hammond, and Buddy Avery; thirteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed, and her influence will continue to be felt through the people whose lives she touched and the children she loved so fiercely.
