Anna May “Ann” Kennedy passed away peacefully at Accent Care Hospice in Wilmington, DE in March 2026.
Ann was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1925 to Edmund and Anna May Hooven. She spent much of her childhood in Philadelphia, PA, Florence NJ, and Goshen, NJ. She attended South Philadelphia High School, and in 1943 she took an office job at Philadelphia-based American Stores Company.
Ann’s husbands were World War II combat veterans, as was her beloved brother, Bud, and several cousins. During the war, she left her office job to take a job as a radio parts solderer at Philco in support of the war effort. She remained a lifelong supporter of Veterans through the VFW and other charities.
After the war ended, Ann married Theodore Takacs and moved to Drexel Hill, PA and then to Holmes, PA, raising three children during that time whom she faithfully encouraged and supported as they moved into their adult lives.
She began a 30 year career at Boeing in 1962, working as a clerk in the tooling department before her retirement in 1992.
Ann had quite a variety of hobbies over her lifetime, including ballroom dancing, bowling, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, board games, and knitting and crocheting. She participated for several years in a Glen Mills, PA-based Blanket Circle that donated handmade blankets to local hospitals. She was an enthusiastic Rummikub competitor, passing along her love for a fun night of Rummikub and other board games to her entire family.
Ann loved and was devoted to her family, and also to the many dogs and cats she cared for over the years, all of whom lived the life of Reilly under Ann’s care.
Ann was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed Irish music, food, and traditions.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell stories of her youth interspersed with her often hilarious remarks, to the delight of her grandchildren.
In her later years, Ann resided in Ridley Park, PA, Glen Mills, PA and Wilmington, DE.
Ann was predeceased by her husband, Robert Pomeroy Kennedy and her son, Michael George Takacs.
She is survived by her son Theodore (Marcia) Takacs, Jr. and her daughter Janine Annette Shay, as well as by her grandchildren Laura Rachelle (Stephen) LaRocco, Samantha Ann (Quinn Menchetti) Shay, Scott Barclay (Shannon) Shay, and Kerry Maureen (Dylan Pravato) Shay, and 5 great-grandchildren.
