It is with sad hearts that we laid Bruce to rest on February 28, 2026, at Gracelawn Memorial Park in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.
Despite the efforts of the caring doctors and nurses at the Wilmington Hospital, Bruce passed away quietly comforted in his last hours by his sister Lea White (Bryan).
Bruce will be remembered as a loving son to his mother Catherine (Shahan) who along with Bruce’s dad John Bennett raised him in Bellevue Manor along with his sister Lea White (Bryan) and brothers John (Sarah) and David (Maria). Bruce is also survived by two nieces (Amelia and Alessandra) and two nephews (John and William) and his favorite coffee buddy, Aunt Ginny.
Bruce attended local parochial and public schools and eventually studied as an electrical apprentice. Working with his hands meant that each time Bruce strapped on his work belt he went to work loving his job.
Bruce will be remembered by his family and friends as a man who would offer a helping hand wherever he saw a need. He always encouraged others to fulfill their dreams even in the days just before his passing. Bruce was a lover of nature and found joy watching the sun rise over the Delaware River or sitting on the benches by the Brandywine creek with his mom.
Bruce loved all animals big and small with the exception of the stray cat that hid in the bush under the bird feeder. But the winning determination of the deer and the foxes, rabbits and squirrels that snacked on our freshly planted flowers always resulted in a chuckle from Bruce and another run to the local nursery for more blooms.
One of Bruce’s favorite experiences was his trip to the Grand Canyon with his dad. As with all who pass too soon, there were unfulfilled adventures. Time ran out before he made it to Yellowstone.
Bruce was a person with a deep faith in God‘s plan. It is what got him through life and encouraged him to continue to move forward. In Bruce’s memory, we ask that in lieu of flowers and cards you reflect on a happier day you shared with Bruce and whenever possible, greet a stranger with a smile and a friend with a hug and handshake, as Bruce once greeted you.
We thank the staffs at Chandler Funeral Home and Gracelawn Memorial Park for their guidance and support during this difficult time.
