Lucy Ciamei Kuzmiak

Lucy Theresa Ciamei Kuzmiak, age 101, passed away on March 30, 2020 after a short illness.
Lucy was born in Bayonne, NJ but lived most of her married life in Alpine, NJ where she raised her five children. She was happily married for 27 years to her husband, Eugene Ciamei, who died in 1965.

Lucy was an avid gardener who especially loved cultivating roses and other perennials. She loved the beach, particularly Long Beach Island, where her family vacationed for many years. She lived in Florida after retiring and thoroughly enjoyed her citrus trees, especially grapefruits, which she proudly shipped to family by the boxfuls.

She was an energetic senior who had many interests including sewing, knitting, cooking, bowling and travelling. Her creative pursuits included candle making and ceramics. In her late 90s, she tried painting and created some beautiful landscapes.

She was tenacious and independent, plus had a sense of humor, all or which helped her overcome any challenges she faced during her life. Her positive personality and entertaining stories will be remembered by all those who loved her.

Lucy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene Ciamei, her son-in-law George Bertolini, her daughters-in-law Ann Ciamei and Phyllis Ciamei, her brother, Martin Demerich, and her sisters Margaret Sagala and Ann Brady. She is survived by her children Mary Evelyn Bertolini, Eugene Ciamei, Peter Ciamei (Dee), Joseph Ciamei (Anne) and Joan Zimmerman (William).

In addition to her 5 children, she is survived by 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the personnel from Millcroft Senior Living for their dedication and kindness in caring for our mother, Lucy, over the past several years. She developed close relationships with many staff members who she called her โ€œAngelsโ€.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, burial and a celebration of Lucyโ€™s life will be held at a later date.
