Jeanne Pascal

Jeanne Pascal, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at home at the age of 88.

A native of Pittsburgh, PA, she lived in Greensburg, PA before attending the Oberlin College Conservatory of music in Oberlin, OH. At Oberlin she earned a Bachelor of Music in piano performance and a Master of Music in piano performance and music theory. After spending two years as a theory instructor at Oberlin, she married Ivan Pascal, a chemist, moving first to Rochester, NY where Ivan earned his Ph.D, in organic chemistry. The family then moved to Wilmington, DE, where Ivan worked for the DuPont Company and Jeanne became a busy accompanist and an independent piano teacher, touching the lives of music students of all ages. Until recently she was an active member of the Northern Delaware Music Teachers Assoc., The Philadelphia Music Teachers Assoc., and The Music Teachers National Assoc. In her later years, she revived an earlier interest in both painting and sculpture, developing both of these talents.

Preceded in death by her husband Ivan, Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Barbara Rogers (William) of Plano, TX, her son George Pascal of Houston, TX, and her daughter Diane Stejskal (Wolfgang) of Vienna, Austria. The above photo was taken by her great nephew, Chris Harrison, son of her loving niece, Kathleen Baker-Thompson of Coshocton, OH.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Curtis Institute of Music, 1728 Locust St., Philadelphia, PA 19103.

A very sweet obituary for a very special lady. I wish we could be there with you, but because of Scott's work and my health conditions, we are not going to be able to be there. We will, however, keep you in our prayers during this difficult time. Much love, Kathy and family

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ms. Pascal. My brother and I are so thankful for her and the years she invested in challenging and teaching us to play the piano. We have many fond memories of playing at her home, at recitals, and even solo festivals at UD. She will be missed greatly. My sympathies to her family and those who knew her.

As my piano teacher for 6 years, she has had a profound impact on me. She was a kind, understanding, and helpful teacher. I will miss all of the great times we had listening to music together. Beethoven, Chopin, and all the great composers would be proud of her work through her many years of teaching.

As a long-time member of the Philadelphia Music Teachers Association, I remember Jeanne with fondness and respect. Jeanne and I worked together on judging student recordings on many occasions, and discussions with her about music were always lively, with a healthy combination of seriousness and humor. I engaged Jeanne to judge for our student recital auditions for many years, and trusted her musical judgement with complete confidence. My condolences and prayers are with the family at this time. With Sympathy, Michael Sheadel

I think I was one of Jeanne's early students, back in 1958. She was a wonderful and patient teacher and I enjoyed the picture of her piano and cat. We kept up with each other through the years and I thank you, Diane, for letting me know about Jeanne's passing. I miss her.

    Marie Ridley writes,
Dear Family of Jeanne and Ivan, I wanted to send my condolences to you for the loss of your Jeanne. When I went to Prague, she kindly sent me a book of pictures that she had in her library. My father was a translator with Ivan, but also wrote his own music compositions. I was looking to send her a message as my father, Charles, with whom she corresponded passed away on November 16, 2019. In the past I spoke with Ivan on the phone when we was calling my father and found emails between my father and Jeanne. Thank you for all the years my father enjoyed sharing music and translation with your family. Again, my condolences to your family . Marie Ridley (daughter of Charles Ridley)
