Jim passed on Nov. 29, two days before he and Cynthia were to celebrate 69 years of marriage. He was the son of James David and Edith Gwendolyn Miller, born August 1, 1933 in Harrisburg, PA. He grew up in York PA, graduating from York High in 1952. He played clarinet in the high school band. He earned a BS in Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Tech where he was ATO fraternity president for 2 years.
Just before their wedding, Jim was drafted into the Navy. After a whirlwind honeymoon, Jim went to Bainbridge for 2 months. Jim worked on filters for the Vanguard Satellites. Returning to DuPont, he designed many buildings and processes at Chambers Works and Repauno, but his happiest tasks was hiring and new engineers, taking an interest in each one. Another part of his job was awarding bonuses for outstanding work.
Jim’s emails of cartoons, uplifting stories, and jokes brightened the mornings of more than 50 people each day. He was sad when he had to stop.
Jim excelled in any sport that involved a round ball, especially table tennis and tennis, winning many state trophies in PA, NJ and DE. He was nationally ranked in tennis. He had a 30+ year addiction to golf. HE WAS NATIONALLY RANKED IN TENNIS.
Jim and Cynthia joined Concord Presbyterian Church in 1962.
When he retired in 1992, he discovered the Academy of Lifelong Learning. For many years he took classes and volunteered. He was hooked by an introductory class in oil painting. He liked it so much, he did over 600 pictures!
Jim is survived by his wife, Cynthia, daughters Robin Brueckmann (Bill), and Lauren Jenkins (Andy), granddaughters Jennifer Jenkins, and Emily Muldoon (Geremy), great-granddaughter Freya Muldoon, and many other relatives.
