Lola M. Miller

Lola M. Miller (Johnson), beloved sister, mother, aunt, educator, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025 at the age of 82. She was born in January 1943, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Whittie and Beatrice E. Johnson and was raised on the East Side of Wilmington, where her values of faith, family, and community were firmly planted.

Raised in a home shaped by love, discipline, and deep spiritual roots, Lola grew into a woman who embodied grace, compassion, and quiet strength. She was a dedicated student and graduated from Wilmington High School in June of 1961. Continuing her education, she attended Delaware State University and proudly graduated in June of 1967, an achievement that reflected her determination, intelligence, and perseverance.

Lola devoted her professional life to education. She taught at Concord High School, where she served as the Home Economics teacher, shaping the lives of countless students with practical skills, discipline, and care. After her retirement from teaching, she continued serving young people through her work with the YMCA After Care Program, where her nurturing spirit and steady guidance remained deeply felt.

A woman of lifelong faith, Lola was baptized as a child at Mother AUMP Church in Wilmington. In her later years, she was a devoted member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she found spiritual strength, fellowship, and purpose throughout her life.

In 1969, she married Clark Miller, and from that union came their beloved son, Clark Miller Jr. Being a mother was one of Lola’s greatest joys, and she poured love, guidance, and unwavering support into her son’s life.

Lola is survived by her son, Clark Miller Jr.; her sister, Marguerite Comegys; her brother, Jim Johnson; and many loving nieces and nephews, along with extended family and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Whittie and Beatrice E. Johnson, and her sisters, Christine Stansbury, Dorothy Gross, and Mary Bailey.

In her final years, Lola was lovingly cared for by her niece, Eboni Fountain, along with Eboni’s husband, Chris, whose dedication, compassion, and daily support profoundly enriched Lola’s later years.
