Peter “Pete” Kung Hsing Lee, 92, of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born in Shanghai, China, Pete came to the United States in 1951 to pursue his education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1955 graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Upon graduation, Pete started with the DuPont Company. During his career at DuPont, he earned both a Master’s degree in chemical engineering and an MBA from the University of Delaware.
Pete dedicated 40 years of his career to the DuPont Company, primarily in the Freon Division. He was respected for his innovative work and held numerous patents in separation processes. His colleagues knew him as both brilliant and humble, a man who quietly made lasting contributions.
Pete’s proudest accomplishment, however, was his family. He shared 70 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Susan, a partnership marked by deep love, loyalty, and devotion. Together they raised two sons, Dr. Raymond Lee, MD, and Robert Lee also a Chemical Engineer with DuPont, and later became the joyful grandfather of Raymond and Alexander Lee. Though he was predeceased by his son, Raymond, Pete carried his memory tenderly and spoke of him often with love and gratitude.
Pete will be remembered most for his kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit. He had a gift for putting others first and found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially sharing a good meal with family. His warmth and steady presence drew people to him and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Lee; his son, Robert Lee, and Robert’s wife, Diane Lee; his grandsons, Raymond and Alexander Lee; and many loving nieces and nephews.
