Betty Barrowcliff

Betty Barrowcliff, age 90, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2018.

Born in Cambridge, MD, growing up in Delmar, MD, she moved to Wilmington after high school. Betty worked at the Hercules Research Center as a laboratory technician until 1954.  She worked ten years in sales for the Blood Bank of Delaware and as a realtor for B. Gary Scott.

In 1946, Betty married Wilson L. Bryan, Jr. They were married until his death in 1971.  They had two children, Nancy and Wilson L. Bryan III.

Betty married Robert L. Barrowcliff in 1977. They lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Wilmington, and Clearwater Beach, FL.  They took many trips together, enjoyed the beach, reading and discovering new restaurants.  (Betty was a gourmet cook.)

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Robert; daughter Nancy Bryan Adams; son Wilson L. Bryan III (Sharon); stepson Stuart Barrowcliff (Regina); stepdaughter Carol Giampietro (Michael); grandchildren John Ryan Adams, Jamie Adams (Brian), Jacob Adams, Jodie Adams, Marikate Bryan, Karl Bryan, Erin Giampietro, Sean Giampietro, Alexander Barrowcliff, Gabriela Barrowcliff and great-grandson AJ Barrowcliff. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Bartlett and many nieces and nephews.

Burial will be private and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

    Bob, Nancy and Buddy, I was so sorry to hear of Betty's passing. She was a warm and gracious lady and I have fond memories of spending many childhood hours with Nancy in her home, putting on amateur theatricals and just hanging out. Betty was a faithful friend to my mother over the many years since they worked together at Hercules and I know that Mom will miss her dearly. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and may wonderful memories sustain you in the weeks and months ahead. Sincerely, Sara
