Mary Marshall

Mary Marshall, age 62, of West Grove, PA, passed away peacefully in her home on August 9th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Wilmington to Robert and Mary Rickert. After graduating from University of Delaware, Mary raised three children. During that time, she worked various jobs and was involved with numerous charities.

Mary loved traveling with her family, especially the cherished summers spent at Bethany Beach in her parents’ beach house. As a lover of great food, the many trips to Disney World, and family cruises allowed her to find new dishes and tell stories about them for years to come. Additionally, Mary enjoyed the vacations down to Clear Water, Florida, where she and husband Dwayne dreamed of happy retirement on the sunny beaches.

Those who knew Mary will remember her kindness, her readiness to lend a helping hand, and the goodwill and selflessness she consistently embodied. As a mother, she fully dedicated herself to raising her three children—nurturing their growth, supporting their dreams, and shaping their character with grace. As a wife, she was a loving and devoted partner, steadfast in her commitment during decades of marriage. And as a bartender at the Hockessin VFW, she offered more than service—she extended friendship, warmth, and kindness to the military veterans who served the country she loved so dearly.

She is survived by her husband Dwayne Barlow, a veteran of the US Navy, and her three children Daniel, Kaitlynn, and John Marshall. She is also survived by her siblings, Mike Rickert, Bette Talley, and Tricia Hudson as well as Mary’s many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mary’s family would like to thank the responsive staff of Brandywine River Valley Hospice for the compassionate care that they provided to Mary in her final days. They would also like to thank the many nurses and physicians at Christiana Hospital for the attentive and professional medical treatment she received during her stay.

Funeral Services

A Graveside service for Mary will take place at 11:00am on Friday August 15, at Hockessin Friends Cemetery, 1501 Old Wilmington Road, Hockessin, DE.

John Walsh lit a candle and writes,
I am truly saddened by the loss of my cousin Mary. Mary, being my first cousin to pass, hits especially hard, as I have always felt a special bond with all my "Finlay" cousins - the children of four amazing women who despite hardship made this world a better place through their faith and love. My thoughts and prayers are with Dwayne, her children, and her siblings Mike, Bette, and Tricia. May your grief be lessened by Mary's sweet and kind demeanor and the joy she spread to everyone who knew her. I have fond memories growing up with Mary Beth in New City, NY - going to summer swim practices together and celebrating birthdays and holidays with her and the entire Rickert family. She was truly a gem. May God bless her.
