Ann (Thomas) Schultz, age 93, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was living at Maris Grove Senior Living Community in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, at the time of her death.
Born on January 8, 1932, in Baltimore, Maryland, to George and Marie (Donahue) Thomas, Ann was the youngest of four and was predeceased by her brothers James and George and sister, Elise (Scott). She was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward Schultz, who passed away in October 2022. Ann and Ed were married for 69 wonderful years, building a life together filled with love, family, friendships, and cherished memories too numerous to count.
Ann is lovingly remembered by her three sons, James, William and his wife, Caroline, and Robert and his wife, Katie; her six beautiful grandchildren, Sarah, Austin, Alexander, Adam, Sam and Trevor, all of whom brought her great joy throughout her life. Ann had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, including Mary, John, Carol, Mimi, Barbara, LouAnn, and Michael, in addition to Ellen, Peggy, and David who sadly predeceased her.
Ann lived a long and full life rooted in quiet strength and deep devotion to those she loved. She had an active mind and was always curious and enthusiastic about the lives of her family and friends; she remained informed about world events and often engaged in conversations about local politics in Delaware. She valued her friendships immensely, even attending reunions with classmates from elementary and high schools attended in Baltimore until recently. She nurtured her friendships by making every effort to stay in touch through cards and phone calls and visits. Ann was an avid reader and belonged to several book clubs throughout her life. She frequented the library often and even kept a little black notepad listing the thousands of books she’d read through the years. Ann and Ed loved card games and belonged to several bridge groups with their friends. They took immense pleasure in teaching their grandchildren how to play Hearts and Crazy 8s, among many other games. We have fond memories of those family card games and how much fun Ann enjoyed, especially as she won quite often! Her grandchildren have expressed that those game nights are some of the sweetest memories they have of their childhood. Ann and Ed participated in their grandchildren’s lives, always making an effort to attend soccer and basketball games and school events throughout the years.
The family spent many wonderful summer vacations with their children in Ocean City, New Jersey and later enjoyed spending time together visiting friends and family in Rehoboth, Delaware, Hances Point, Maryland and Ocean City, Maryland. Their most memorable family trip was driving across the country in the summer of 1969, camping and visiting many western national parks, including Yellowstone. Ann and Ed also took several wonderful trips throughout Europe and especially enjoyed their time in England.
In her younger years Ann never missed a tag sale, delighting in a great bargain, particularly furniture finds that she refinished for her home. She was a longtime volunteer in the gift shop at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, and with Meals on Wheels, sharing her warmth and time with all those with whom she came in contact.
Ann was deeply religious and relied on her Catholic faith to guide her through her life. She was a happy person who could rise above challenges. Her strength and ability to always look forward impressed us all and never waned even in later years. Her energy and joyful nature allowed her to meet people wherever she went. Ann will be cherished and greatly missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched.
A funeral service will be held on August 14, 2025, in the Chapel of the Cardinal Clubhouse at Maris Grove, located at 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. Visitation is from 10am-11am, followed by a service at 11am. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to your favorite charity in Ann’s memory.
