Ned Coleman Jackson

Ned Coleman Jackson, born in 1935 in Sioux City Iowa, son of the late Verda and Robert Jackson, passed away peacefully in the arms of his beloved wife, Nan Lucas Jackson of 61 years, on Wednesday night July 23rd, 2025.

Ned would say his greatest accomplishment was his family, all of which survived him; he had 5 sons, Robert (Suzanne), Benjamin (Karen), Daniel (Julie), John, and Ned (Amanda).  He also had 10 grandchildren, Rebecca “Becca”, Tessa Moon (Martin), Robert “Luke”, Isabelle “Belle”, Aidan, Emmett, Ivy, Grace “Gracie”, Nathaniel “Nate”, and Cole.  Ned loved spending time with his family and attended as many sporting events, recitals, musicals, plays, ballets, pageants and life events as he could throughout his life.

Ned served in the U.S. Army, stationed in the Philippines where he was a Morse Code Operator; a skill that he would remember the rest of his life.  After his military service, Ned went to school at Iowa State, where he graduated with an industrial engineering degree. Ned spent the longest portion of his accomplished career at the DuPont Company.  After his retirement from DuPont in 2005, he worked for Telex/ElectroVoice.  Some of Ned’s favorite roles were leading Dupont’s Latin American Business as well as Dacron and Specialty Chemicals.  Like most things in his life, Ned dove into his Latin American role often being seen dressed in Cuban shirts.  His roles afforded him the opportunity to travel the world.  Ned also enjoyed traveling with his wife and very often with his boys, their spouses and his grandchildren.  Trips included Brazil, Mexico, Europe, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Honduras where he and a number of his boys learned to scuba dive, “because there was nothing else there to do.”

Ned enjoyed many hobbies in his life; pole vaulting, glee club, golf, tennis, woodworking, running (Sub 3 hours in Boston Marathon), scuba diving, cooking, coin collecting, hunting, playing guitar, and the Boy Scouts where he was Cub Master for a number of his sons leading to 3 Eagle Scouts among his descendants.  Ned was a voracious reader, loved the daily crossword, and a master storyteller.  He loved nothing more than reading and telling bedtime stories to his boys and grandchildren, including the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and his original stories of “Sammy the Squirrel”, which he eventually turned into a book illustrated by some of his grandchildren. Ned also learned and loved to practice Spanish (with anyone and everyone who was willing.)
