    Vincent Poppiti writes,
I grew up with Gene and his family on Lincoln Street in Wilmington. He was a born leader always wanting us to make sure our neighbors cared about and for the needs of each other. He enjoyed building “stuff” and taught his younger twin brothers to do the same…no wonder they made a career of their childhood play. And after a hard day at play I fondly recall his dear mother’s booming voice echoing around our block and Canby Park, calling her boys home for dinner. Fond and cherished memories of a good person. I wish his family and friends sincere condolences.

I had the memorable pleasure of knowing this wonderful man. He always left the room with smiles on everybody's faces. He was unreservedly great fun and made us all feel special. He will be sorely missed. I will remember him as a family man with unmatched generosity and loyalty to those around him. His visits were mostly fun but also far-sighted. I always found him conversant on so many subjects. He was simply a very special person and I was honored to know him.
