Lu Ogburn Currin

Lu Ogburn Currin passed away peacefully on December 18, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home in Sea Island, Georgia.

Lu grew up in Winston Salem, NC and was a graduate of Marjorie Webster College. She met the love of her life, Bob Currin, on a blind date. They were married shortly thereafter, and shared 54 wonderful years together.

While raising her family in Wilmington, DE Lu taught Kindergarten, was an active volunteer with the Junior League, a Deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and ran the “afternoon group” at The Tatnall School. After many moves as a DuPont transferee, she and Bob built their dream home “Southern Comfort” in Kennett Square, PA where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends. They also began spending more time at their cottage on Sea Island, a favorite gathering place for the family, and Lu eventually moved there permanently. She enjoyed walking the beach, gardening, dining with her friends, and spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter were her pride and joy.  She was the ultimate southern Lady, courageous and optimistic, a true “Steel Magnolia”. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends both young and old.

Lu was a member of the Wilmington Country Club, The Sea Island Club and the Sea Island Gardening Group.

She was predeceased by her husband Bob, and left to cherish her memory are her children R. Thomas Currin Jr., Liz Currin Hagen (Grant) and Mary Lu Currin Pamm (Roland); her grandchildren Chris (Kelly) Pamm and Rob Pamm, Tori (Sam) Pittman and Marilu Hagen; Olivia and Thomas Currin and her great-granddaughter Savannah Lu Pittman.

Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1502 West 13th Street, Wilmington, DE 19806, or Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.

Condolences

Al Brown lit a candle and writes,
Lu and Bob Currin were shining lights at Sea Island . Their attitudes were so positive , irresistible and infectious. I met them in the early 80's, and sold them their cottage in 1985. I immediately liked them. Who could not?! They loved life and each other. "Lu Lu", as Bob would call Lu. He adored her, and vice versa. She was so strong and courageous after Bob died. To this day, getting to know them and their influence on Gayle and me, remains a highlight of my 40+ year career. A shining light has been extinguished, but it shines on in the lives of those who were touched by Lu and Bob Currin . Al Brown
