Mark J. Dougherty

Mark J. Dougherty, age 56, of Wilmington, Del., passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at St. Francis Compassionate Care Hospice.

Mark was born and raised in Wilmington, graduating from St. Mark’s High School (1979). Mark moved to Athens Greece initially to persue a career in telecommunications. Mark lived in Greece for almost 20 years before returning to Delaware in 2007 becoming a commercial painter. Mark considered Greece his second home and shared many wonderful stories and memories of his time there.

Mark is survived by his wife of 17 years, Eleni Katapodi, daughters Rafaela and Nicole at home and Manty Anninou of Athens, Greece.  Mark is also survived by his parents William J Dougherty, Jr of Wilmington and Gail Hutton Dougherty also of Wilmington, his brothers Michael and partner Rolando Hernandez of Miami, Fl, Matthew and wife Donna, his sister Vicki and husband David Peters, a niece Caroline Peters and a nephew Aidan Dougherty, all of Wilmington.

A Visitation and Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 N. Broom St. in Wilmington. The visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:00. Interment will follow the service at Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

Mark’s family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Delaware Hospice and Compassionate Care Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Mark in his final days.
