Ernest C. Grabill

Ernest C. Grabill, age 92, peacefully passed away at his daughter Mary’s home on September 21, 2017.

Ernie grew up in Westerville, Ohio, the son of Glenn Grant and Cecilia Irhig Grabill. After graduating college at Ohio State University, he obtained a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Ernie joined the DuPont Company in 1947 and retired in 1982. He worked in research, technical sales and management, relocating abroad to Geneva, Switzerland and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
In 1953 Ernie married Patricia Greene and they had 2 daughters Linda and Mary, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Ernie was predeceased by his wife, parents and five siblings.

Post retirement, Ernie went on to enjoy attending the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at University of Delaware, eventually teaching mythology and ancient history for 40 plus semesters. He served on the council and many committees, volunteered for Contact Crisis Center, enjoyed Delaware Symphony and singing in local choral groups. Ernie was an enthusiastic nature lover, photographer and bird watcher, as well as a lifelong member of the First Unitarian Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to The Osher Academy of Lifelong Learning, 2700 Pennsylvania Ave., Wilmington, Delaware 19806 or to the First Unitarian Church, 730 Halstead Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19803.

Funeral Services

A Memorial Service for both Pat and Ernie will be held at the First Unitarian Church at the address listed above on Saturday, October 28th at 2pm with reception to follow.
