Marion “Mimi” Reynolds Baxter ( The Marzo Family )

Marion “Mimi” Baxter, age 86, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21st, 2018 surrounded by her family.

Mimi was born in Brooklyn, NY, the oldest child and only daughter of John Brady and Marion Reynolds Baxter. She was raised in Garden City, NY, and had five younger brothers. She received a BA degree from the College of St. Elizabeth, Morristown, NJ in 1953, where she was Class President.

She worked from home raising five children that included moving to seven cities, including Indianapolis, IN, Buffalo, NY, and eventually to Swarthmore, PA. In each move she took great pride in creating a beautiful and loving home for her family. She later moved to La Jolla, CA, where she enjoyed working in property management. She always said her love for the ocean and a California life drew her there.

After ten wonderful years in California, Mimi returned to spend many happy years living near several of her children and grandchildren – Phil with his three children, David with his five children and Carolyn with her three children – and was active in enjoying their activities. A special thrill for Mimi was when her eldest son, Stephen, took her on a European tour including Paris, the Swiss Alps and Italy. Mom’s gift for interior design extended to a shared passion with her daughter Marianne’s lovely home.

Mimi was a devout Roman Catholic and involved in several religious initiatives. Her interests included walking, swimming, watching football and golf and letter writing, which often included current news articles and political reviews. She was an avid learner, well-read and active in local political campaigns throughout the years. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, beauty and joyfulness.

She was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Andrew “Brady” Kohn and her three brothers, John Baxter, Peter Baxter and Anthony Baxter.

Mimi leaves behind her five children:  Stephen Marzo (Karen) of Hong Kong/Amagansett, NY; Phil Marzo (Donna) of Berkeley Heights, NJ; Marianne Marzo of Washington, DC; David Marzo of LaGrange, IL; and Carolyn Marzo (Kohn) of Wilmington, DE. She was a loving grandmother to 14 grandchildren — Aidan, Stephen and Jordan Marzo (Stephen); Andrew, Tim and Chris Marzo (Phil); Matthew, Emily, Kevin, Jacob and Mary Marzo (David) and Brady, Jack and Charlotte Kohn (Carolyn).

She is survived by two brothers, Brother Jordan of Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity, Silver Spring, Maryland and Tom Baxter, of Florida.

Mimi’s children would like to extend their gratitude, especially in the last few years, to the dedicated staff at Foulk Manor South, Wilmington, DE, for their loving care of Mimi, along with Laura and Megan, therapists at Fox Rehabilitation, Gina with hospice and Robin, a yearlong volunteer. All of you brought great comfort, joy and a special loving touch to Mimi’s life.  Your kindness will always be remembered.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Donate Life America, which embraces a mission Mimi felt very strongly about. https://www.donatelife.net/mission-vision/

How I will remember Aunt Mimi: Original. Sunny. Caring. Devout. She was a great storyteller, she wrote good letters. While I did not see her often, she always made an impression and always made me laugh. Mimi, you will be missed. But you will also be welcomed by those you love who went before you. Thinking of and praying for Marzos and Kohns. Love, Michael

To the Marzo family I wish to convey my deepest condolences for your loss. Having lost my mother in 1997, as well as just recently losing my brother, I know what you are going through. My Aunt Mimi had a great faith in God and I hope that can help in times like these. I am having a mass said for her at my church and my wife Leonie is having her church group add her to the list they pray for as well. I also pray for all of you that your healing can be swift. Mimi was a wonderful woman and she loved all of you very much. Take care-Jim, Leonie, and Jake.
